Why Hellenic?

Hellenic Athletic (Soccer) Club was established in 1958 and in 2023 celebrates 65 years of existence, the oldest football club in Darwin. In that time Hellenic has built strong links with the Darwin community, participating in many cultural and charity events, none bigger than the Greek Glenti Festival.

The club was established by Greek immigrants, and whilst it maintains and celebrates its Greek roots it has also grown into a multicultural club welcoming members of all backgrounds. In 2021, Hellenic boasted approximately 350 playing members.

Our club is also a leader in women’s football and as the only club to have 3 senior women’s teams, as well as all-girl teams playing in the junior mixed divisions. We are very proud of our hard-work encouraging women in sport. Hellenic also boasts one of the highest junior base in the Territory.

Why Football?

Football NT (FNT) is closely aligned with Football Federation Australia (FFA). Australia is a member of the largest sporting organisation in the world – FIFA, along with 211 countries and dependant territories (more than the United Nations). Australia is also a member of the fastest growing football region in the world, the Asian Confederation of Football.

The latest AusPlay survey released in 2020 by Sport Australia has confirmed football’s position as the number one organised sport in Australia, with more than 1.85 million participants. Recreational sports like walking, gyms, swimming, running and cycling top the list of physical activities, with football having more than twice the number of participants than other team sports, excluding basketball.
